What to Expect

When you visit Shepherd of the Valley you can expect to be welcomed by some friendly people who will let you know where everything is. Feel free to grab a cup of coffee or tea and come into the auditorium and relax. There’s nothing fancy. You will notice that our congregation likes to visit with one another, but we do try to start on time at 10:00.

Here are a few things we do on most Sundays . . .

We pray.
Usually someone leads the congregation in praying for various needs in our church, our community, and the world. Sometimes we have a simple guided time of silence. If you would like special prayer, you will find some of our members who will be happy to pray with you after the service. These prayer times are held in the strictest confidence.

There is an opportunity for our members to give back to God; we see this as an act of worship. However, if you are visiting with us, we prefer that you receive from us. There is no obligation to donate.

We love to sing at Shepherd of the Valley. Our music is informal and we incorporate several styles. On any given Sunday you may hear a little country, classical, upbeat rhythms, traditional hymns, or quiet worshipful prayers.  You may also hear some special music, art demonstration, or some poems read. We have a very talented congregation.

God has revealed himself in an incredibly relevant book that today we call the Bible. The Bible tells a story. It tells the story of God’s plan to redeem us and all of creation. The preeminence of Christ is the center of gravity of this story. On Sunday mornings you will hear a message from this book about how you and I fit into this story. We usually teach by explaining a smaller section of Scripture and making sure we understand how it fits into the larger contexts of Scripture. It’s not the only way we teach, but it is the primary way because it helps insure that we stay balanced and, over time, we get a diet of the “whole counsel of God.”

If you're new, we'd love to follow up with your experience at Shepherd of the Valley. Be sure to drop off the contact card in the offering bag or give it to anyone you see on the platform. No pressure. Feel free to stay for coffee and talk with people after the service is finished.

Dress Code
There is none. Most people wear things that are casual and comfortable – depending on the Gorge weather!

Children’s Church and Nursery:

Child care is available for babies, infants, and toddlers from 10:00-11:30 every Sunday. The nursery is well staffed by loving adults in a healthy and safe environment.

Toddler Room
Coming soon is a new kids room specifically for ages 2 and 3! This will be designed for those kids that are a little too big for the nursery but not quite ready for the LIFE Kids classroom format.

LIFE Kids is the Sunday morning program for children ages 4+. We dismiss the kids about 30 minutes into the service so they both enjoy worship with their parents and grandparents but then participate in learning activities more appropriate for their age. This program is staffed by trained teachers and all precautions have been taken to keep your kids safe while having fun and learning more about Jesus. There will typically be a lesson, craft and snack.

Ignite Youth is the Sunday morning program designed for kids 4th grade - 8th grade. Kids are dismissed from the sanctuary about 30 minutes into the service following announcements and worship. They are led by a trained church volunteer. Typically, there is a workbook page, discussion, and snack.
